It is critical that you are selective in the place you go for an alcohol evaluation, as the old adage “not all are created equal” is especially try with evaluations. Most evaluation sites are at rehabs or drug treatment centers. Having your alcohol evaluation completed by a rehab evaluator is a bad idea for several reasons. 1st, rehab evaluators sometimes have performance quotas where they are pressured to recruit individuals into their treatment center at high percentages. This can lead to recruiting individuals into treatment who do not necessarily need – or want – treatment. 2nd, rehab evaluators are inherently biased when completing alcohol evaluations. They work for a treatment center and lean toward recommending their rehabs treatment services. This can be a conflict of interest as they are more prone to trying to get a person admitted into treatment services – and treatment services through their clinic.
Instead, it is extremely important to have your alcohol evaluation done by an independent testing center. 1st, independent alcohol evaluators are non-biased and less prone to sending people without serious addictive disorders to treatment. 2nd, independent alcohol evaluators are hired by you and work for you – not for a for-profit treatment center. Therefore, your experience will generally be better and these independent evaluators will be more likely to take into consideration your wishes. 3rd, independent alcohol evaluators tend to advocate for you. This is incredibly important when there is court involvement. Finally, independent alcohol evaluators are able to help individuals get into the best treatment centers available throughout the state when individuals want or need treatment.
So where can I go for an independent alcohol evaluation? The premiere clinic is Avitity Health. Their direct phone number is (612) 249-3656. They offer state-wide videoconference appointments and in-person meetings.
